Emergency Devices Group

Man is often referred to as a "tool-using animal." As we evolved, the natural tools of sharp claws and sharp teeth disappeared, leaving us with our intellect as a replacement. No longer able to depend upon these now virtually nonexistent natural aids to survival, man used his brain to fashion tools which would replace them. Early tools were little more than scavenged materials -- wood, rocks, and bones. Later, man refined these tools so they worked better and were more useful, making him more productive and better equipped to survive. Eventually tools became sophisticated and extremely effective. We've "come a long way, baby."

The well trained survivor can revert back to those earlier times and make do with just what nature makes available, improvising tools from found materials. It is neither easy, nor conducive to survival under many circumstances. Nor are most people equipped with the training, skills, and attitude to survive in this manner (though such training is available from many sources and can be invaluable, both for the skills and the confidence it provides). We do best to carry the tools we need.

This section covers these "emergency devices," including things like knives, multi-tools, firestarters, and many others.
